Authors biography

The books and Bible studies on this site were written by biblical marriage and family counselor Doug Britton (Douglas Britton), MFT. Doug, President of LifeTree Institute, has been a Christian since 1969, and has helped thousands of people since entering the counseling field in 1967.

In counseling with individuals and couples, leading workshops and retreats, teaching classes, and co-hosting nearly one thousand radio call-in shows, Doug has taught practical, effective ways to apply the Word of God in all aspects of daily living, and has helped people see that the Bible offers us the foundation for rewarding, meaningful lives.

Doug has worked as supervisor of an intensive treatment unit in a state institution, treatment director of a private facility and since 1980 as a private biblically-based marriage and family therapist (counselor). He has trained hundreds of professionals and paraprofessionals and has spoken at numerous seminars, workshops and retreats.

He has a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology and has edited and published three professional publications. His wife Susan has been a homemaker, landscape designer, journalist and novelist. She also has taught marriage and parenting workshops, and holds degrees in English and Landscape Architecture.

Doug draws from his own struggles and victories when he writes. He and Susan separated in 1966 and almost divorced, but over time they learned how to apply Gods Word to their marriage, and now enjoy a great relationship.

Doctrinal beliefs / Statement of faith

The core beliefs underlying LifeTree Institute, LifeTree Books, and DougBrittonBooks.com are:
There is one God, eternal and existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Bible is the Word of God. It is inspired, authoritative, and infalliblethe only infallible source to which we can turn for truth. It inspires us, comforts us, convicts us of sin, and tells us how to live godly lives.

Jesus' atoning death and resurrection provide the only means by which we can be reconciled to God. When we come to faith in Christ, we are born again and experience eternal life with God.

When we place our faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, God's Spirit indwells us and begins the process of transforming us, helping us grow in holiness and preparing us for works of service which God has prepared for us.
